What is the Midheaven?
The Midheaven, or MC, is the highest point of your birth chart: where the sky was at its peak above your birthplace when you were born. It begins your 10th house and describes your public life, the contribution you’re growing toward and how your work is seen. Your 2nd and 8th houses, Venus and Saturn complete your career and money chart.

Your career and money chart, explained
How do I find my Midheaven?
Enter your birth date, exact birth time and birthplace in the calculator above. Your Midheaven depends on the time and place of your birth, because the sky turns about one degree every four minutes. You’ll see its sign, your 2nd and 8th houses, Venus and Saturn, with a short reading for each.
Which house is money in astrology?
Two houses speak most directly to money. The 2nd house describes what you have and earn: your resources and sense of security. The 8th house describes what you share, owe and receive: partnerships, debt, investors, inheritance and trust. The sign on each house shows how you tend to relate to them.
What is the 2nd house in astrology?
The 2nd house is the house of resources: income, possessions, savings and the security they bring. It also describes what you value enough to keep and build. The sign on its cusp, and any planets inside it, describe how you tend to earn and hold resources, and what helps you feel that you have enough.
What is the 8th house in astrology?
The 8th house describes what you share with others: joint finances, debt, investors, inheritance and the trust that shared resources require. It also speaks to depth, intimacy and transformation. Its sign shows how you tend to approach partnership in money, and what helps an agreement feel clear and fair to you.
What is the 10th house in astrology?
The 10th house is the house of career, reputation and public life. It begins at the Midheaven, the highest point of your chart. Its sign and any planets inside it describe the contribution you’re growing toward, how you lead, and how your work is seen. In evolutionary astrology, it describes a calling rather than a job title.
What does Venus mean for money and value?
Venus describes what you love, what nourishes you and what makes an exchange feel fair. Her sign shows what you find beautiful and worth sustaining, and her house shows where in your life those values play out. Money is one part of her story. Pleasure, relationship and how easily you receive are the rest.
What does Saturn show in a career chart?
Saturn describes structure: the commitments, boundaries and rhythms that help you sustain what matters. Its lessons often come slowly, and its sign and house show where steadiness and authority can grow over time. In a career chart, Saturn shows what kind of structure would actually hold your work, so it can last.
Do I need my exact birth time?
For your Midheaven and money houses, yes. They depend on the time and place of your birth and change every few minutes. Without a birth time, you’ll still see Venus and Saturn by sign. If you don’t know your time, a chart rectification can estimate it from the events of your life.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. You’ll enter your email to see your readings and join my email list, which you can leave anytime. Your chart is calculated in your browser. Your birth date, time and place are not stored; only your Midheaven, Venus and Saturn signs are kept with your email, so my letters can speak to your chart. A personalized report and workbook, going deeper into how your four maps connect, is coming soon.
How accurate is it?
Accurate to the same standard as professional astrology software. Before launch, it was checked against the Swiss Ephemeris on 100,000 randomly chosen births, and every Midheaven, every 2nd and 8th house cusp, and every Venus and Saturn sign and house matched exactly. See how it was calculated and tested.
How this calculator works
A chart is only as trustworthy as its astronomy. Here is exactly how yours is calculated, and how I tested it.
- The planets: calculated with Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library built on VSOP87, the planetary theory developed at the Bureau des Longitudes in Paris, and NOVAS, the astronomy software of the U.S. Naval Observatory. It is unit-tested against NOVAS and NASA’s JPL Horizons and is accurate to within one arcminute, a sixtieth of a degree. Positions are apparent and geocentric, in the tropical zodiac, as seen from Earth at the moment you were born.
- Your Midheaven and houses: calculated from the exact latitude and longitude of your birthplace with the standard formulas in Jean Meeus’s Astronomical Algorithms, a standard reference for astronomical calculation. Houses use the Placidus system, the one I use in readings. Beyond the polar circles, where Placidus can’t be calculated, the calculator switches to Porphyry houses and tells you so.
- Your birthplace and time zone: every town of 1,000+ people worldwide, from the GeoNames database, with historical time zones and daylight-saving rules from the international IANA time zone database built into your browser.
- Placements on the edge: when Venus or Saturn sits within a quarter of a degree of a house cusp, about a minute of birth time, your results say so, so you can read both houses.
- Tested on 100,000 births: before launch, I compared this calculator with the Swiss Ephemeris, the high-precision ephemeris created by Astrodienst (astro.com) and used throughout professional astrology software, on 100,000 randomly chosen births from 1930 to 2025, in 5,434 towns and cities between 60° north and south. Every Midheaven, every 2nd and 8th house cusp, and every Venus and Saturn sign and house matched exactly. Planet positions agreed to within 20 arcseconds, a third of an arcminute, and the Midheaven and house cusps to within half an arcsecond. The only differences anywhere were 19 births where Neptune sat within 20 arcseconds of a sign boundary.
